The Swagman Outback The swagman is a legendary Australian character made famous by the song "Waltzing Matilda." Like the character in the song, the Swagman Outback hat will never give up! The brim has been reinforced with a flexible wire to allow the hat to be crushed. Available in both the Waxed & Oiled and the Rough Out Suede finish. A great travel companion. The model is wearing the Rough Out Suede Rust Brown.

The Swagman StoryThe swagman is an old Australian term describing transient temporary workers particularly during the depression of the 1890s and the Great Depression of the 1930s. Mostly single unemployed men who travelled the rural areas of Australia on foot from farm to farm carrying there meagre possessions rolled up and carried in their swag. Also characteristic of swagman attire was a hat strung with corks to ward off flies. A romanticised figure, the swagman remains famous though the song "Waltzing Matilda", by Banjo Paterson, which details a swagman who turns to stealing sheep from the local squatter. We decided the hat looks much better without the corks, and today with bath houses on nearly every block the flies don't seem to be a big problem.

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300°C.
